Who we are?

We are a not-for-profit disability services provider; we provide services to people, from children to adults, with a wide range of disabilities. Our services are individually tailored, which means we give our customers the power to adapt services to suit their needs.

Our organisation was designed specifically by people with disabilities to ensure service users had a voice and could be involved with their service delivery. Enhanced Lifestyles always has its customers at the forefront when developing plans and directives as the customers themselves are making the decisions.

Our Board

Our board of management is comprised solely of individuals living with a disability who use our services. This gives the organisation a true understanding of the needs of its customers. The board is responsible for determining the strategic direction of Enhanced Lifestyles, overseeing the legal and financial obligations of the organisation.

Board members are elected by the customers of the service and are the representatives of the customers. Enhanced Lifestyles always has its customers at the forefront when developing plans and directives as the customers themselves are making the decisions

Our History

Enhanced Lifestyles was formed in 1990 by a group of people living with disabilities. They lobbied for funding that allowed them to form the Disabled Independent Persons of South Australia (DIPSA) in 1982.

Two key lobbyists from the South Australian Council of Social Services (SACOSS) established an incorporated body to form a company called Community Independence Association (CIA) in 1983. The board was comprised of people with disabilities that used the service, with the aim of being a completely user-led organisation. They introduced the revolutionary concept of offering members choice and control of their services.

During the initial funding for CIA, the board also applied for funds to create a second organisation known as South Australian Independent Lifestyles (SAIL). This was to cater for 15 to 20 people who would receive in-home support. CIA and SAIL co-existed for 10 years.

During 1990, the board identified the need for growth to remain feasible, thus CIA and SAIL merged to form Enhanced Lifestyle. The organisation continues to be one of the longest running user-led and tailored service providers.
